about

"Let’s get it out of the way right now – Imaginary Songs and Aluminum Hits is a fucking great record.

Penned by the Pennsylvania-based outfit Kid Icarus, it contains all the essential elements to a great record – cohesion, musical experimentation, great lyricism, melody and catchiness.

Imaginary Songs is the outfit’s 7th record, which started as the bedroom project of Eric Schlittler.

The entire record carries an undefinable vibe between each song – somewhere between bedroom demo and full-on garage rock. Schlittler’s voice is calming but also dually invigorating (and lies somewhere between Conor Oberst, Stephen Malkmus and that band that played the theme song in Pete & Pete, if you were wondering) , and the guitar work (Schlittler on rhythm, Justin Marchegiani on lead and Ted Baird on bass) takes each song into unexpected places while remaining completely in control.

Schlittler’s lyrics are also a high point – songs like “My Mother the Car” with lines like “I am the monster inside, I’m sorry I know it’s true / and I’m growing dark, and I’m sorry, just know it’s not you” and “Encased” where he pours his soul in the chorus – “you got me encased” and lines like “a vile of holy water / she said you need it for the trip / protect against the demons / oh, how time seems to slip, away”.

Beauty is hard to attain in music – but Imaginary Songs is blanketed in it. Even when the band goes heavy, it’s still there.

Almost every song on this record is a highlight in and of itself – making this album a truly great piece of art, and placing it as a benchmark for what independent music should aim for.

Do yourself a favor and go familiarize yourself with Kid Icarus as soon as you can. You won’t regret it." (buzzlegoose.com)
